Why a Monthly Check Is Worth 15 Minutes

Websites rarely break with a bang. A form stops sending, a link points to a page that moved, or last month's holiday hours are still on the home page. None of it sets off an alarm, but each one can cost you a customer who gave up and called someone else.

A short routine on the same day each month catches these quiet problems early. You do not need technical skills, only your phone, a computer and about 15 minutes.

The Checklist

Work through these in order. Each one takes a minute or two.

• Open your site on your phone. Many visitors arrive on a phone. Check that the home page loads, the text is easy to read and the buttons are easy to tap.
• Confirm the connection is secure. Your address should start with https, and your browser should show no security warning. A warning here turns visitors away, so fix it right away.
• Test your contact form. Send yourself a short message through each form on the site and make sure it arrives.
• Click your main links. Try your menu, your phone number, your email link and every button that asks people to get in touch. Note anything that leads to an error page.
• Read your key facts. Hours, prices, address, phone number, team names and offers. Anything that changed this month should change on the site too.
• Check your speed. If a page feels slow, look first at large photos. Resizing a big photo before you upload it is often the easiest fix.
• Compare your visitors. Look at this month next to last month. A sudden drop can point to a broken page or a search listing that needs attention.
• Add one fresh thing. A new photo, an updated offer or a short note about what is new tells visitors the business is active.
• Check your renewal dates. If you pay for a domain name or another service your site relies on, make sure it is set to renew.

Write down what you found and fix the small things the same day. Bigger changes can go on next month's list.
